What an IoT pump device actually does

At Vala Engineering our IoT platform is built in three layers — device, app and cloud — and each pressure boosting system or panel can be ordered IoT-ready:

  • Device — sits inside the control panel and reads pressure, flow, energy, voltage and runtime directly from the pump and drive.
  • App — a mobile dashboard showing live pressure and flow, with instant alerts for dry-run, over-voltage or a tripped pump.
  • Cloud — stores history so you can compare this month's energy against last month, and spot trends before they become breakdowns.

Where the bill actually drops

Three mechanisms do most of the work:

  1. No wasted running at zero flow. When demand stops, the system stops — instead of a fixed-speed pump churning against a closed valve.
  2. Constant-pressure VFD control. The drive matches speed to demand, and pump power roughly follows the cube of speed, so a small speed reduction is a large energy reduction.
  3. Early fault detection. A rising energy draw at the same flow usually means a clogging strainer or worn impeller — caught on the dashboard weeks before it trips.
Real-world pattern: most societies and commercial buildings over-pump. The single biggest saving is simply not running pumps when nobody is drawing water — something a fixed-speed setup can't do on its own, but a monitored VFD system does automatically.
